Boyertown Area School District is celebrating “American Education Week,” which is taking place from November 18th through November 22nd, 2024.
The purpose of “American Education Week” is to celebrate and appreciate all the people who work to better public education. This includes teachers, principals, administrators, and more. It also highlights accomplishments of public schools, and accomplishments of those public school students.
Brief History
American Education Week was first observed in 1921 after being proposed in 1919 between American Legion and the National Education Association, both organizations that still exist today. According to nationaltoday.com, “the week preceding Thanksgiving has been earmarked as National Education Week to generate awareness, curiosity, and excitement for learning, while also celebrating the absolutely vital place education holds in our society. It also functions as a mechanism for public schools to secure funds to meet their needs.”
Students Appreciative Remarks
Many students around BASH all have staff members they appreciate. Emily Mack, a junior, is grateful for Mr. Knight, a Biology teacher, saying “He’s very funny and was very nice throughout the year.”
Carson Snyder, a sophomore, appreciates Ms. Snyder, a 10 grade history teacher. In an interview, he said that “She’s really great. When I got sick she bumped my quarter grade up to a 50% so I would be able to pass the class at the end of the year.” He later followed up with how she was always a place of comfort and support for him, saying, “She supported me through many of my struggles.”
Hailey Gress, another sophomore, appreciates Mrs. Schaarschmidt, saying, “She helped me peruse what I’m interested in. She helped me to become a better person and open up more.”
The Cub would like to give its biggest thank you to everyone who works to keep our district running smoothly. We appreciate all the hard work you guys do and cannot wait to see what the future holds!
