With the end of the 2024-2025 school year getting closer, I realize that my time with the Cub is coming closer to it’s end as well. It’s been my greatest honor to serve as Co-Editor for my past two years, and words cannot express the gratitude I have for the Cub and the people behind it.
When I think back to when I first joined Cub, I realize how naive I was. I had not yet realized the opportunities and connections that were afforded to me from such a simple decision. Everything from presenting to the school board, spending a week at the Washington Journalism and Media Conference, covering BASH performances, sports, plays, events, deep dives into the school as a whole, and much more, has been a result of joining the Cub.
Writing an article on something you don’t know much about, interviewing people you wouldn’t typically talk to, or going to an event you wouldn’t normally go to is all a part of what makes the Cub so special. Getting out of my comfort zone, speaking to different people, and going places I wouldn’t have originally had any interest in very broadly expanded my horizons and perspectives. I have always considered joining the Cub a great decision. After four years of writing for the Cub, I can proudly say I’ve never regretted pursuing an article.
I’m thrilled to be passing the the Cub onto Hailey Gress. I know she, along with Mrs. Schaarschmidt, will continue to do great things with the Cub next year. I can’t wait to see what amazing things they do, and I’m thrilled to have been apart of it during my time at BASH.
I would like to thank my advisor Mrs. Schaarschmidt, my Co-Editor Ethan Millard, and correspondents Hailey Gress, Carter Kenny, and Logan Dice for always being a place of support and motivation. The Cub wouldn’t be where it is today without all these, and many more, people. It also wouldn’t be here without you, the readers, so it is with great sincerity I say, “thank you.”
While I’m sad to say goodbye to the Cub and all the people here, I’m also excited to see all the great things it accomplishes in the future. The Cub is in great hands, and I cannot wait to see what it accomplishes next.
Thank you for having me as an editor,
-John Loos
