Friday, April 24th, will be the annual Unity Walk around the track in celebration of Earth Day. This is a time where different clubs have little stations for students and teachers to attend while walking around the track.
This walk has been around for many years here at BASH, as it gets the students outside and provides many different activities and stations for the students to be occupied with. The stations in previous years included a tattoo station, rock painting, and writing notes to friends just to name a few.
A big change in this year’s Unity Day walk is the amount of stations and clubs that are participating. Last year, there were around 12 different stations. This year, the number has jumped to 28. This will provide many more activities for students to participate in. As well as the different activities at each station, the clubs that are operating the station will have information about their club, hoping to get more members on board in the upcoming school year. These clubs include Orchestra, BASH-TV, SDU, and many more, including the BASH CUB!
One club that participates in the Unity Walk every year is FBLA. They have one of the most popular stations, with the removable tattoos. I managed to speak with one of the FBLA advisors, Mrs. Miller, on the event. She said that she loves the Unity Walk because, “I just love how the students get to go outside, get fresh air, and are able to do fun things with their friends during the school day.” When asked about why FBLA repeatedly hosts the popular tattoo station, she said, “It allows the kids to be silly and act like a kid.”
As well as the walk on Friday, there will be a spirit week during the entire week. On Monday, it’s Make it Last Monday, in which students should wear clothes that they have owned for a while rather than newer clothing. Tuesday is Tinted Tuesday, in which students should wear black to represent conserving energy. Wednesday is Waste Less Wednesday, in which students should use reusable containers, bags, cups, and silverware to cut down on unnecessary waste. Thursday is Thrifted Thursday, in which students should wear thrifted or hand-me-down clothing. And then finally, on Future Friendly Friday, students should wear green to support environmental sustainability.

With the weather looking beautiful Friday, the Earth Day Unity Walk is sure to be a success! To all that will be out there on the track, make sure to stop by every station and do every activity there is, and also be sure to wear some sunscreen. Enjoy the fresh air, and say thanks to this wonderful planet that carries us all during it’s celebrated day. Happy Earth Day!
