At the start of the 2025/2026 school year, BASH welcomed a new Family Consumer Science teacher to its teaching staff, Ms. Smith, who took over the position for Mrs. Green, who retired last year.
Ms. Smith currently teaches in family consumer science, meaning she teaches students how to cook in BASH’s many culinary classes. In addition to this, she’s also certified in English language arts, elementary ed, and special ed.
When asked how long she’d been in the education field, Ms. Smith said “15 years,” having spent her years before coming to BASH working at Perk Valley, teaching autistic support.
“The position was open, and I wanted to do something different,” is what Smith had to say when asked why she chose to work at BASH.
When asked what [she] enjoyed most about her time at BASH so far, she had this to say. “I’ve really enjoyed myself so far, but my favorite thing has been the ability to create and getting to meet all the new students and staff.”
With the new law banning students from having their cellphones during school going into effect during the next school year, Ms. Smith had this to say about what her plans are for next year and if she has any plans of change for next school year. “No plans to change, because what I teach is very hands-on, most of my students don’t get the chance to go on their phones, and any that do have put them away without much fight. So I don’t see much change happening next year.”
Ms. Smith had an interesting high school career before graduating. “I moved around a lot; I actually went to four different high schools.” When asked about her post-high school education, she explained: “First, I went to Montco (Montgomery County Community College), which I really loved, before going to Temple for my bachelor’s and Wilkes for my master’s.”
“Ever since I was young, I wanted a job where I could interact with other people every day. Before becoming a teacher, I went to college for nursing and phys ed, before switching to special ed.”
We are very happy to welcome Ms. Smith to BASH and wish her all the best during the remainder of her first year!
