On Tuesday, May 5th, students a part of FBLA went on a field trip during school to see the Reading Phillies during one of their games.
Tickets were $30 and they covered for the lunch that evening. The students were all in a specific section, which were pretty good seats. In between innings, there were many different forms of entertainment, like the Vegetable Race, the Crazy Hotdog Vendor,Higher or Lower, and more.
The game was high scoring right out the gate, as Somerset, the visiting team, scored three runs in the first inning, and added two more in the second inning, one run in the third inning, and then two runs in the fourth inning, making the score 8-2. However, the Phillies managed to climb back at the bottom of the fourth inning, and scored six runs to tie the game at 8-8. Bryan Rincon on the Phils hit a grand slam which tied the game. This provided a nice spark of energy that was needed, but unfortunately it didn’t last very long. The Patriots added another three runs in the top of the fifth, bringing the score to 11-8. By the bottom of the seventh, the Phils were losing 12-9, and it was time for the FBLA students to pack it up and ride back to Boyertown. The Phils managed to pull off a successful comeback win after the fact, and they won 14-12.

The next day, a former Boyertown graduate who works for the marketing team of the Reading Phillies came into school and provided a breakdown of the different techniques of marketing and the science of minor league baseball to the students who attended the game. The report was very insightful, and the whole thing was broadcasted on the TV news.
FBLA students had a great time, and the advisors of the club are looking to make this an annual event. If anyone would be interested in this activity, join FBLA and speak to Mrs. Miller or Mr. Bleiler if you have any questions!
