Senior, Teacher Earn Citizen of the Year Awards
A senior student and a teacher will be honored at the Boyertown Citizen of the Year ceremony this weekend.
Jordan Wood has been selected as Outstanding High School Senior and Mr. Josh Pennington as Outstanding Mentor through the Citizen of the Year program.
Mr. Joshua Pennington teaches technology education at Junior High West and at the high school. He also is the adviser for the Technology Students Association.
“Mr. Pennington has provided strong leadership in his assigned classes and also through his work coordinating our BASH Technology Student Association activities,” Superintendent Dr. Richard Faidley said in an email announcing the award.
BASH Principal Dr. Brett Cooper noted that Mr. Pennington spends countless hours assisting students in preparing for TSA conferences and competitions and has “produced success stories that are unprecedented”.
“He has formed meaningful and appropriate relationships with students that show them that he cares about them not only as students, but as individuals as well,” he said.
Jordan Wood is a senior wrestler whose high school record is 149-5. He a two-time State Silver medalist, a World Silver medalist, and a 2014-15 PIAA Champion.
Coach Peter Ventresca said Jordan’s accomplishments go beyond the wrestling mat, maintaining a 3.8 GPA and serving as Senior Class President.
“He is humble, extremely hard working, and always gives back to others,’ he said.
