Senior Payton Kalbach is ready to graduate!

As 2021 comes to an end, it’s unfortunately time to say goodbye to our seniors- including The Cub staff writer Payton Kalbach. Payton was very involved here at BASH- she’s involved in TSA, and has held two leadership positions as Fundraising Co-chair and  Reporter. She says her time in TSA provided some of her favorite memories throughout high school. She was also Entertainment Co-chair for minithon 2020, and Public Relations Co-chair for minithon 2021. She is a honors student, and plans to pursue a career in secondary education.

Payton has always enjoyed writing- she started doing it for fun in elementary school, and then took up journalism in seventh grade to try something different. In the class she was able to write articles in a small group to publish monthly issues to the whole school. She wrote here at East for two years, but decided to take a break from journalism in ninth grade, so she could adjust to the high school.

As a junior, Payton decided to try journalism again, to see if it was a possible career path she would like. “The class really reminded me how I enjoyed writing and I continued journalism this year in my senior year with the level 2 course where I was able to work solely on pieces of my own for The Cub.” Payton typically writes feature articles, and has written several this year for The Cub.

Although Payton has decided not to go into the journalism field, she does plan on staying in the English “area”. She will be attending West Chester University to get a B.S.Ed for English Literature in grades 7-12. “I have yet to decide if I will write in college, however, it is a possibility at this time.” Regardless, she is sure to go on and do great things!
