Wood Falls Just Short

Wood Falls Just Short

Boyertown senior Jordan Wood headed up to Lehigh University Saturday, October 17th. Excited and confident, he was set to take on the #1 ranked wrestler in the nation, Gable Steveson.

Jordan, ranked as #2 in the nation, felt like he could have walked away from Lehigh with a win. When it was all over, however, Steveson defeated Wood narrowly, 5-4.

“Afterwards, I was disappointed. I felt like I could have beat him.”

Despite the loss, Wood has had an amazing high school wrestling career. Last year, he won the state title, after placing second in his weight class the two previous years and completing a 20-0 regular season record. He went on to compete in the world championships, where he placed second.

Wood has big plans after high school, including continuing his wrestling career in college at Lehigh University.

“I’m going to compete for Lehigh, consider doing international wrestling, and compete for the Olympics.”
