Dr. Tom Shugar will temporarily serve as 10th Grade Assistant Principal

The former principal at Colebrookdale Elementary School will serve as interim Grade 10 Level Assistant Principal at BASH until the new year.

Dr. Tom Shugar temporarily replaces Mrs. Shirley Lutz, who retired in November. He will serve until January 2, when Mr. Andrew Maoury, an assistant principal in the Radnor School District, takes over permanently in the job.

Dr. Shugar served as the Building Principal of Colebrookdale Elementary School for 10 years and 3 years as the Building Principal at Washington Elementary school prior to that. Having been retired for the past 4 years, Dr. Sugar currently works supervising student teachers for Albright University.

He said he is happy to be back working in the district. “It’s fun,” he said.

He said he will not make any major changes in how discipline or other matters are handled. “I don’t want to stray from the other principal’s way of doing things,” he said.

After serving at BASH, Dr. Shugar will go to Junior High West to replace Vice Principal Mr. Brian Rohn, who will replace the principal at New Hanover Elementary School, Kelly Mason, while she is on maternity leave.

He said the board approached him about coming out of retirement to serve at BASH. Despite his new job, he still is able continue to supervise Albright students. Two of his student teachers were recently working in the Boyertown district.

Even though he’s temporary, he said he will “handle as much as he can and wants to be involved as much as possible.”
