Being a substitute at Springfield for two years before coming here, Ms. Clair has started her first full year as a teacher at Boyertown. “It was kind of a lucky accident,” she says, “I was looking for a job and you know my Fiance and I wanted to stay in the Phoenixville area where we were living, and Boyertown seemed like a really great school.” She specifically said she liked how community based Boyertown and its policies are. “I really thought it would be a good fit and thankfully they agreed and here I am today.”
Ms. Clair comes from a long line of teachers: her mom is a psychology professor, her grandmother was an elementary school principal, and her great grandmother was a math teacher as well. Ms. Clair went to Temple for her undergraduate degree, Villanova for a Master’s in theatre, and Cabrini for her Master’s in Education, but made the decision to start teaching after COVID where at the time she was working at a theater. “I had those post-covid thoughts,” she remembers “I was thinking maybe teaching was the way to go so I switched over and I’ve been loving it ever since.”
“I really love to read,” Ms. Clair adds. “I love Harry Potter, I am also a very big myth fan,” “I crochet a lot of things for my nephew, he’s 2 and he’s so cute, I love snuggling with my dog, and I love playing the occasional video game actually.”
When asked if she faced any issues being her first year teaching she had this to say, “It’s a lot of trial and error. You try something, it might work it might not work, you sort of come up with things as you go, you sort of borrow something from someone else and it doesn’t work or it does work and you keep it.”
Ms. Clair says her favorite part of teaching is when her students are able to really “get it” and can have discussions about the topics she’s teaching. She also added how she enjoys getting to do more creative assignments where students can create stories and characters.
“It [feels] so welcoming, everyone is so nice.” Ms. Clair remarked, “I’m very happy to talk about books or get any recommendations about things. I’m also just very excited to be here and excited to get to know everybody.”
