HPE is nothing new to Mr. Houck, as he previously taught at Phoenixville Area School district.
Mr. Houck is passionate about what he does and cares for all of his students. Before he came to BASH, he lived in Newport Pennsylvania. His elementary gym teach teacher inspired him to do what he loves. He eventually decided that being a PE teacher was the perfect job for him because he loves being outside and teaching his students.
He went to Lockhaven University, where he got his master’s in education. After that, he began working in the Phoenixville school district.
One of Mr. Houck’s previous students made it into a D1 sports team at school. Mr. Houck says he loved to see him, along with other students, work hard and get reward for doing so. Mr. Houck loved that he was able to make an impact on his life, because his work had finally paid off.
When asked about what advice he would give to his students if he could tell them anything, Mr. Houck said, “trust your gut.” Mr. Houck truly cares about his students, and hopes that they all do what’s best for them.
Riley Hillegass, a sophomore in Mr. Houck’s HPE 10 class, said that “He’s funny and just overall a laid back person.” “He’s good at listening to the needs of his students to help them learn the material he teaches.” She later followed up with saying that “He makes what he teaches lighthearted and fun.” Overall, she really likes him as a teacher, and is happy to have him as a teacher at BASH.
Mr. Houck can always be found teaching his students or spending time outside. He is a perfect example to do what you love, and to never give up. We welcome Mr. Houck and wish him the best during his first, of hopefully many, year working at BASH.
