New Teacher: Mr. Hales, English
Q. What school did you previously work at before coming to the Boyertown Senior High?
A. I previously taught at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School and Conestoga High School. I’ve been teaching as a substitute at BASH for the last two years.
Q.What is your teaching background?
A. My background is actually in literature, history, and psychology. I’ve taught 9th-12th English, as well as U.S. and world history.
Q.What specific classes will you teach this year?
A. I’ll be teaching 11th Academic English and Honors Identity/Social Issues
Q. Why do you enjoy teaching?
A. The perspectives, energy, and optimism of young adults. I love it. I also want to be the reason that teens say, “I read the book before I saw the movie,” because the book is always better.
Q.What do you look forward to in the new year?
A. I love the beginning of the year. I have a full list of vegetables to choose from when telling students what to eat. (PS: Eat edamame!)
Q. What is your favorite tv show?
A. I don’t have cable! #cutthecord
Q.What’s your favorite Disney character?
A. Wise old Rafiki.
Q.Where did you grow up?
A. I was born in Colorado, but grew up in the Upper Perkiomen Valley.
Q. What is your Favorite childhood memory?
A. I loved playing pool. I got a pool table for Christmas when I turned 11. I played on it (by myself) almost every single day for like 6 years.
Q. How do you plan to contribute to the BASH community?
A. I’m excited to continue coaching boys’ lacrosse this spring, and I’m also hoping to start a writing center at the high school where students can bring their essays to be peer reviewed before submitting their work to teachers (shameless plug: Any juniors/seniors interested in becoming editors should stop in to see Mr. Hales in room 304).
