September is national pediatric cancer awareness month. To show support, Boyertown is having a district wide gold out! It will be during next weeks football game, Friday, September 29th. During the game the student section will be wearing Gold to show support for cancer research.

Boyertown has been participating in gold out for over a decade. Between first quarter and half-time at the football game, student council will be having an event called miracle minute. Miracle minute is when members of student council run up and down the rows for 1 minute with cans, collecting donations to Four Diamonds. Four Diamonds is a non-profit organization with the goal of raising money to assist families struggling with childhood cancer. During half-time the student council will announce how much has been donated. Student council will also be doing a miracle minute at the powderpuff game as well.

BASH won’t be the only school participating in gold out, many of the elementary and middle schools across the district will also be showing support and having charity events.  In addition, teachers will be given other opportunities to support the charity with Friday jean days, where teachers pay a flat $40 at the start of the year to wear jeans on Fridays. Teachers can donate extra cash each week for whichever charity the donations would go to that week.

Mr. Pennington will also be selling Gold shirts and giving all proceeds to the American Cancer Society. Mr. Pennington has been raising money for over a decade and has donated over $50,000.

Boyertown’s a district that’s always willing to stand up and show support, we can’t wait to see you at the game!
