Boyertown crushes Upper Perk in a 61-0 victory
Boyertown Bears kicked off the football season with a 61-0 win against Upper Perk Friday night. The team’s hard work and dedication really showed and this win will go down in Boyertown history. This is the team’s fourth time scoring over 60 points in a game and was the bears first shutout since 2010, making it a memorable evening.
Junior Jason Oakes started off the momentum of this amazing victory with three touchdowns in the first half of the game. Ryder Gehris made a great pass over to Jason, contributing to the second touchdown; putting the score at 27-0 by the end of the first quarter. Running Back Anthony Famularo gave us two more touchdowns, adding to the victory for the Bears. With every play the crowd lit up and everyone was up on their feet cheering on the team. Our Bears were fired up and ready to win, they came for victory and dominated the field. They aren’t done yet though, it will be a challenge for whoever faces them next.
A special shout to our cheerleaders for their ability to keep the crowd engaged. Their athleticism shines through with every trick and their acrobatic talents keep our spectators entertained. The band and colorguard gave us an amazing halftime show- this talented performance kept the crowd pumped for the next half of the game! Shortly after halftime, a team member from Upper Perk was injured on the field, and Boyertown took a respectful knee as the paramedics rushed to his aid. He was able to walk off the field as the stadium exploded in applause and support. We wish him a quick and speedy recovery.
Next week, September 2nd, Boyertown will play an away game against Exeter; we wish our Bears another crushing victory.
