As the school year comes to a close, the Cub says goodbye to Kayla Jomarron, a 2 year contributor to the Cub. Throughout her time at BASH, Kayla’s been highly involved, as she’s a member of link crew, Student Diversity Union (SDU), 2 years of journalism, and 3 years in the schools preschool program.
Kayla’s been taking journalism classes since her junior year. This year, as a journalism II, she got more of a leadership/editor role. During this time, Kayla wrote the most viewed article on the Cub, Sam and Colby: A week at the conjuring house, gaining over 7,000 views! She’s also managed, edited, approved, disapproved, and published many stories. “I really enjoyed my time in journalism, especially journalism II” she said “I like saying no to people, I’m the bad cop to everyone’s good cop. But, the Journalism one’s this year have had a lot of potential and a lot of great story ideas”
Kayla’s also a helper for the preschool program, which she’s been part of for three years. Kayla does a lot for the program, she said that she “set up their lunches, discipline students by making them clip down, reward them, help them wash hands and clean up, getting jackets on, unpacking, and a lot more” “I love helping in the preschool classroom. I’m coming on the last day of school to watch the kids graduate, help setup, and say final goodbyes” she followed up with.
Recently, in an effort to try something new, Kayla joined a new club, Student Diversity Union. She said that “SDU helps promote diversity amongst the students at BASH. I joined a little later in the school year but it was definitely a lot of fun giving opinions and voting on certain things as well as setting up/being a part of culture day! For culture day I represented Cuba, because my ethnicities include Puerto-rican and Cuban. The bonds I’ve created in SDU are definitely going to be long lasting, and I can’t wait to see what the club becomes in 10-20 years”
She’s also been a member of link crew, which is a “club to help out new freshmen during the beginning of the school year.” Throughout the week of May 6 – May 10th, you may see her, along with other students, giving tours of BASH to 8th graders who will be freshmen next year.
Looking back at her 4 years at BASH, Kayla’s advice to incoming freshmen/underclassmen is “Don’t believe anyone is your friend. Don’t trust anyone.”
Going forward, Kayla will be attending Keystone college and majoring in criminal justice. She said because she hopes to be a police officer in the future.
With all these great accomplishments, the Cub is sad to say goodbye to Kayla. However, we are excited to see her prosper in her future endeavors!
