Home Games Will Go On While Memorial Stadium Repaired

Football games will be held at home this fall, despite Memorial Stadiums’ bleachers being closed.

The School Board voted to rent bleachers and purchase concessions stands rather than play games at a neutral site or other teams’ fields.

Memorial Stadium’s grandstand has been closed since December due to concerns about structural damage, and repairs will still be going on through the fall.

According to the May 8 School Board minutes, the board’s facilities committee reviewed three options for the 2018 football season:
-renting a neutral site for games

-traveling to the scheduled opponent’s field for all football games

-use Memorial Stadium

The committee voted for the third option, which included the following details:

  • all football games, two boys soccer games, two girls soccer games and one field hockey game will be played at the field
  • the school will rent bleachers that will be placed on the track in front of the unusable grandstand and will purchase portable bleachers to be used in the end zones (and used in other fields after the fall season)
  • the school will also purchase sheds for concessions (to be used for other purposes after fall season).

The total cost of the project is $112,233 and will be funded by the Capital Projects Fund.
