Phillies Opening Day 2021
With April 1st led off the 2021 MLB season, the Philadelphia Phillies started off their opening day game this year in Citizen Bank Park. The Phillies won 3-2 over the Atlanta Braves, with the help from Phillies ace Aaron Nola. The game ended in exciting fashion with 2nd baseman Jean Segura hitting a walk off single. Manager Joe Girardi spoke about this after the game saying, “Jean has a real competitive spirit and wants to be great”.
With focus in the offseason on pitching help for the Phillies it seemed to work out on opening day, SP Aaron Nola struck out 6 through 6.2 innings letting up 2 ER (Earned Runs). Bullpen pitchers Archie Bradley, Jose Alvarado, Hector Neris, and Connor Brogden got the job done and did not give up a single run for the remainder of the game. The bats were not the hottest for the Phillies today as they still got the job done with 9 hits and 3 ER, Catcher J.T. Realmuto had 2 hits along with 2nd Baseman Jean Segura.
Another exciting component of opening day was that fans were back in Philadelphia. Citizens Bank Park was operating at 20% capacity, and fans could not have been happier with the outcome!
The Phillies season started off with a bang with a win in Philadelphia and they plan on keeping the ball rolling. With being in such a tough division this year, the Phillies are looking like underdogs, so we will see how the season pans out for Philadelphia.
