On Wednesday, September 10th, 2025, American political activist and author Charlie Kirk was shot at Utah Valley University by 22 year-old Tyler Robinson. Charlie Kirk was holding a “prove me wrong” event on campus. Charlie Kirk was speaking in front of roughly 3,000 people according to abcnews.go.com.
At 12:23 Pm, Charlie Kirk was hit with a single bullet that investigators say came from a nearby rooftop. This bullet hit Charlie Kirk in the neck, and 6 people carried him t0 an SUV that rushed him to Timpanogos Regional Hospital. Charlie was in critical condition until he was eventually pronounced deceased later that afternoon.
Charlie Kirk’s death made an impact on people around the country as he had touched many lives. Shortly after his death, President Donald J. Trump said, “The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, We love you!”
Additionally, Former President Barack Obama said, “We don’t yet know what motivated the person who shot and killed Charlie Kirk, but this kind of despicable violence has no place in our democracy. Michelle and I will be praying for Charlie’s family tonight, especially his wife Erika and their two young children.”
All American flags were directed to be flown at half staff by President Donald J. Trump until September 14th, 2025 at sunset as a symbol of mourning for his death.
In 2024 there were over 9,000 threats made against lawmakers, and 2 assassination attempts on elected officials. Political violence against elected officials and political figures has made a sharp increase in recent years. The trend raises concerns over nation-wide polarization, inflammatory rhetoric, and accessibility to firearms.
