Board Recognition Month
The Pennsylvania School Board Association annually marks January as Board Recognition Month. As a token of appreciation from the students and teachers the board members were presented with gift bags containing unique ceramic pieces. These were created by art students at BASH who worked both in and out of class to create these pieces for the board. Each piece was created through a collaborative effort through all levels of the ceramics classes. Each piece is wholly original and different from each other.
Treasurer’s Report
A presentation was given covering the financial gains and expenditures during November and December of 2024. Within the month of November the district received $1,281,450.05 through various taxes, and $983,444.17 through government subsidies. Salary benefits and professional services made up 81% of the month’s expenditures. In December the district received $1,128,224.17 through taxes, and $3,813,818.37 through subsidies. Salary benefits and professional services made up 79% of December’s expenditures.
District Calendar
The new district calendar was brought up for approval, although several members of the board brought up issues they had with new the calendar. One of these issues was with the half days leading up to thanksgiving break, as it could be hard for working parents to manage having to pick up their children 3 hours earlier. Another issue brought up was the complete lack of snow days on the calendar. Director Neiman commented, saying, “Letting the kids be kids for 2-3 snow days is not wrong. Having a flex day thing they’re not learning anything…..I will not support a calendar that does not have snow days in for the kids.”

Throughout the meeting several things were approved. The Treasurer’s Report from this meeting was approved with a vote of 8-1. An overnight trip for the Orchestra was approved unanimously. Job descriptions for Network and Applications Administrator and Technology Operations Specialist jobs were approved with a vote of 8-1. The new district calendar was approved with a vote of 6-3.
