Brittney Griner is finally home after 10 months in prison in Russia
After being detained in Russia for 10 months, the Joe Biden Administration has finally been able to negotiate a one-for-one prisoner swap. Brittney Griner who was sentenced to nine years in prison for drug charges was swapped for Viktor Boutan arms dealer convict.
Griner arrived back in the US at Brooke Army Medical Center on Friday, December 9, 2022. She’s staying with Cherelle Griner, her wife. In an interview with ABC13 Brittney’s agent, Lindsay Colas told them how she had decorated a Christmas tree for the couple to welcome Brittney home and hopefully get them in the holiday spirit.
Since Brittney has been home she’s been visited by many relatives that haven’t failed to bring Brittney one of her favorite foods and drinks, San Antonio Barbecue and Dr. Pepper.
Being home has been a lot to handle for Brittney, she’s spent most of her time at the Basketball courts. She hasn’t played since before her pre-trial months ago, so when it came time to hit the courts again Brittney mainly worked on her dunks. Brittney hopes to return to the WNBA but is seriously taking the concerns of whether or not she’ll be ready or not to be away from her wife and relatives into consideration.
When Brittney and her agent talk to CNN they opened up about details regarding Brittney’s recovery. As of now and in the foreseeable future Britney is receiving psychological support from professionals after the psychological trauma she experienced while in Russia. She hopes to move forward in her emotional and physical recovery and when the time comes release her own memoir about her time in prison, the prisoner swap, and her personal recovery.
