With the arrival of the 2025-26 school year, many new faces came with it. This year’s freshman class is one of the largest compared to recent years. The transition from middle school to high school is an anxiety and excitement-ridden path. Here are what some freshman had to say about their feelings and thoughts on the upcoming 2025-26 school year.
Giovani Angelo, a new freshman, said, “Feels like middle school still. Don’t know what I was expecting, but the building is the only hard part so far.” When asked about the difference in school work, he said, “It’s like what, the third week of school? Nothing too crazy yet, but I don’t know, school just started.” When asked about how he thought his other classmates were feeling about the upcoming year, he responded with, “From what I see, everyone’s really giddy, I think. Obviously, not everyone’s excited, like I’m not really into school, but lots of people I know are having a good attitude about it so far.”
Giovani wasn’t very excited about the new year. In fact, he said he was dreading it. “Summer was great, the last thing I wanted was to go back to school, I can’t lie. My brother, Dominic Angelo, goes here and he told me what to expect, so I’m not too worried, just bummed that I have to sit in these cramped behind classes.”
Another freshman, Lilianna Devenny, said, “I think my classmates are a little scared because high school is kind of like a big thing.” The way freshmen feel about high school seems to be all over the place. Some can’t wait to kick off the year and move forward in their future, while others seem anxious and dread the upcoming year.
One thing is clear, though: it’s going to be an interesting year.
