Why are books banned?
There have been a lot of banned books even though some of the most popular books that readers love were banned in public schools and even libraries. This proposes the question, “why?”
Books such as “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, “Persepolis” by Marjane Satrapi, “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck, “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald, “1984” By George Orwell, and many more, have been banned.
According to The Modern Library list books have been banned for reasons of racism, language, sexuality, violence, and other topics relating. On that list, there were 100 books that have been banned, but there are many more out there.
For example, “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald was challenged for the book’s language and references.
No matter the language used or what references are in books, everyone should have the freedom to read any book they want. Some of the best books there are have been banned, so who’s to say readers cannot read them?
Well, schools and even public libraries have banned books for having inappropriate language, how does language contribute to someone reading a great book that has been popular for many years when inappropriate words have been spoken by all?
Books are all about words and language so allow readers to read.
On that note, no one should block someone’s intellectual freedom to read, happy reading!
