SADD Wins State Award
SADD Club won Chapter of the Year at the Pennsylvania SADD Conference in Lancaster Oct. 31.
This award is given to the SADD club most active in its school and community during the 2016-17 school year.
The Students Against Destructive Decisions Club started about four years ago when a senior approached an administrator with concerns about students making poor choices, said Club Adviser and Spanish Teacher Mrs. Sandra Beck.
Since then, the SADD Club has sponsored numerous events each month.
Last year’s events included:
September- Addiction/Recovery Awareness walk in the Boyertown community and a campaign reminding students of the dangers of texting while driving
October- Red Ribbon Week (students signed pledges to stay drug free)
December- Yoga/Mindfulness Workshop
January- Drug Fact Awareness Week (Facts about drugs were printed on posters throughout the school and TV news announced facts daily)
February- Friendship bracelets sold with inspirational message during lunch periods as fundraiser
March- Toiletry Drive (sponsored to benefit local recovery houses)
April- Good Decision-Making Presentation (presented to elementary students)
May- SADD’s Vision and Activities Presentation (presented at Boyertown Rotary Club)
